Herakleidae Feats- THE PLAY

A group of teenagers try to bring to life the feats of not only one Hercules, but many more, masterfully weaving the elements of the authentic ancient comedy with elements that speak the language of today's youth.

A parody written according to the standards of Aristophanes comedy- with absolute respect in the values of the ancient theater- conveys messages for today, offering laughter - but also the keys to unlock the feats of life, itself.

For the creation of the play, the research team of the Association for the Research & Study of Hellenic Culture and the kids themselves, delved into the symbolisms of the feats, studied the principles and codes of comedy and imaginatively intertwined elements that make the work digestible in modern reality, combining elements that depict the atmosphere of that era.

Therefore, on stage we will see pediments and kinesiological codes from ancient pottery coming to life, but also smart references to modern life reality. We will listen to well-known modern songs adapted and set to music based on the ancient Greek metric, and we will feel that all eras coexist in a timeless diachronicity.

What would happen if Hercules was not one person but many? If each Hercules had his own personality and way of dealing with things? If a microbiophobic Hercules had a mission to clean the Augean stables? If a strong Hercules didn’t fight with Hippolyta, but cooperate with her, or if Hercules was even…a woman figure? Hercules was never just a hero. It was and always will be an idea, a model, a paragon, a trace in our current paths. Each of us can be Hercules and transform his weaknesses and peculiarities to weapons, in order to emerge victorious in life.

The feats of Hercules come into life again, in a different, unique way that has plenty of laughter to offer, but also a lot to teach.

The play was presented for the first time in October and November 2022, at AVATON Theater, Kerameikos, in 2 sold out performances! And we keep going!
